Saturday with lots to do, especially with the new garden.DSC08879

Trent put on his work shorts and shoes and got to digging the drainage system.

I got dirt and hit a great 50% off sale on azalea's and corral belle’s.  I feel like we’ve purchase quite alot of dirt this year.  I even get excited when I see dirt on sale now.  Dirt!!!  The stuff I’m constantly trying to avoid and clean in the house I’m actually purchasing in mass quantities and even  getting slightly snobby about my dirt.

My veggie garden is ready to do some fall planting.  I pulled up the radishes (and boy did they look random, I’m not going to put up the picture from my phone of one certain radish, but let’s just say it conjures up gutterish thoughts) and now have an area for carrots.  Depending on fall weather I could get a crop. I also planted spinach, arugula, red leaf lettuce, mixed spring greens, and another crop of peas.  I’m mostly excited about the greens since I planted the garden in late April, that ship had sailed.

but the strings would get loose enough for the peas to fall over.  I like the idea of a tee pee looking vine all crazy in the garden. 

That night we went to the Festival of Nations in Tower Grove Park with Markham, Julie, Ben, and all the kiddos.  They have an area with kid crafts.

Sydney and Lauren both got “face” paintings (only Sydney on her hand so she could see it).

The girls also both did crowns and Lauren did a hand print for a big collage.  The food there is really the big thing, they have trucks from everywhere, including some from countries I’ve never heard of, much less know if their cuisine.  There is a fantastic Ethiopian restaurant in St. Louis called Meskerem and they had a truck, I was so excited!!  I had the veggie plate, which was:

Vegetarian Combo

Combination of Miser Alecha, Miser Wat, Shiro Wat, Butecha, and Gomen Wat.

Yeah, I ate it and have no idea.  But it was really good!  My favorite is the Injera, which is this sourdough flat pancake you use to mop up all your veggie stews, it’s Ethiopia's answer to flatware and it’s awesome!

As I've been telling Jenny lately - little did I know when I was 19 and started dating her that some day I would be more appropriately called Farmer Bond than Mr. Bond.

(but I love the food and love how happy the gardenS make her!)
